  2. Barbara, thanks for chiming in. Yes, I can imagine it isn't.

I think most single women could actually get a date if they wanted to. It just depends on how low they want to go with their standards.

Guys have a little more trouble, because socially, women tend to be the persued and so have the power of refusal. If a guy really wanted to make sure he had a "girlfriend" for Valentine's Day, he would have to so some really nasty illegal activity and then he'd have groupies like those guys on death row.

I don't understand the fuss over V-Day. It's a Hallmark holiday geared towards people who have too much discretionary income with which they know what to do.

It's one day...if it takes a monumental guilt trip to state your love while everything else you do is suddenly forgotten for the sake of some cheap trinkets and gifts, then the "love" isn't real. Sure, it can be argued that "It's the nice thing to do" and "Everyone else does it". It's still artifice to me.

I can remember a time not so long ago when I had an active singles account on one of the on-line sites. I didn't pay that much attention to it, but from time to time I would check in and see who was out there. For the most part, it was a fairly silent profile with not many hits.

Then lo and behold, for the entire week leading up to V-Day, I was getting messages and flirts from everywhere. I can't imagine that it was anything more than desperation and fear of being alone on Feb. 14 and the drag nets were being cast a lot further than usual. I de-activated the account on V-Day without pomp or ceremony; without answering a single message, without picking up one flirt being cast my way.

It really stuns me to see how society in general have become sheep.
