A look at the world from a sometimes sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek, decidedly American male perspective. Lately, this blog has been mostly about gender issues, dating, marriage, divorce, sex, and parenting via analyzing talk radio, advice columns, news stories, religion, and pop culture in general. I often challenge common platitudes, arguments. and subcultural elements perpetuated by fellow Evangelicals, social conservatives. Read at your own risk.

Time for Father’s Day Again
There will probably be a dinner – homemade or otherwise – in honor of my father-in-law, even if it doesn’t happen on Father's Day.
I'm a father myself now, as you know if you've read other entries in this blog. I’m also the sole income earner in our home. As such, I’d rather not get purchased gifts for Father's Day. I mean, it was my money to begin with after all, and if I need it, I'll buy it. No, homemade gifts are good, and so are services.
Truly, I can't think of getting anything better for Father's Day than a hug from my kids.

Please no "cussing" or profanities or your comment won't be published. I have to approve your comment before it appears. I won't reject your comment for disagreement - I actually welcome disagreement. But I will not allow libelous comments (which is my main reason for requiring approval) and please try to avoid profanities. Thanks!
I think it's wonderful that you truly appreciate the love and home made gifts your children give you. I hope that you had a wonderful Father's Day!
ReplyDeleteThanks, snowflake. It wasn't a spectacular Father's Day, but it certainly wasn't bad. There was a lot of other stuff going on over the weekend, so it was kind of hard to make a very special day out of it. That it isn't "very special" to be able to spend the day with my wife and kids means that I'm already blessed as a father, as other fathers would love to have that be a regular thing in their life.
ReplyDeleteThe first part of the day was taken up having brunch with my wife's family, as opposed to a dinner, and then went well enough. We saw my father on Saturday.
