Leo Gets Young Women Because He Can

You may have seen this graphic or heard jokes, including at awards shows, about Leonardo DiCaprio's dating pattern. [This entry has been bumped up because it is as relevant as ever.]

I'm ambivalent about Leonardo DiCaprio's work and his activism, so it's not like I'm some fan of his. However, I will defend him when it comes to his dating choices.

Rich, famous men dating significantly younger women is nothing new. Women have sought wealthy men for as long as wealth has existed. Men tend to find women 25 and under to be the most physically attractive.*

These are facts whether anyone likes them or not.

Most men would mostly date women 25 and under if they could. Most men can't, because they don't have what DiCaprio has. DiCaprio can, because he has wealth, and on top of that, he has fame.

It has always been the deal between men and women that men get the hottest women they can afford and women get the wealthiest men their looks can attract. How many women who make a living from their beauty date men with low-paying jobs? Women now have equal access to the workplace, to banking, and financial management, so women can earn their own money and support themselves, if they want to; they can become wealthy independent of a man. So why don't women, especially bikini models, partner up with nice men who have low incomes? Far more attractive and wealthy men are willing to partner up with women with low incomes.

In every state in the USA, and many other countries, a woman is a legal adult and free to choose her boyfriends once she is 18. She can join the military and vote. If they aren't capable of choosing their boyfriends, they shouldn't be able to vote or join the military.

If it bothers you that DiCaprio dates these women or that they date him, can you explain why? Or is it just a matter of envy or not liking the fact that you're getting older? I find it ridiculous that DiCaprio or any other man who does likewise gets more disapproval than men who go from marriage to marriage making babies.

If these women are willing to date DiCaprio, and he wants to date them, why is this a problem for anyone? You might consider it inappropriate (again, explain how if you can) but it isn't illegal, and I fail to see how this in inherently immoral.

One of the most ridiculous takes on this is that it is "pedophilia." No, not even close. Pedophilia involves prepubescent children. DiCaprio is dating women who are adults.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio has laughed when publicly ribbed for this. Yup, he's laughing all the way to bed. It pays to advertise. The more people talk about this, the more young, hot women believe they have a chance with DiCaprio, and the more that will be available to him. Young men see that being rich and famous will allow them the same perks he gets, and for many, that is strong motivation.



*Speaking strictly about physical attractiveness, women 25 and under are at the top. This is why the average age of women (especially women who aren't household names) featured in Playboy (as centerfolds, Playmates, etc.) is in the early 20s. There are many other examples reinforcing this point. Some people try to deny this by saying that media like Playboy is causing this preference, rather than responding to the preference that is already there. People honest with themselves know better.

This is not to say that women can't be sexy and/or attractive throughout much of the rest of their life. They can and some do. Plenty of men enjoy the company of women much older than them, as I did in the past. But if we're talking about physical appearance, being in shape and full of energy, and a lack of baggage and certainly less whining about wanting a baby, men like DiCaprio are going to choose women 25 and younger.
